Vision

Ever since I can remember, I wanted to be a rock star.  To be on the big stage.  With  the big audience.  To be a super hero.  The line leader.  Remember when it meant everything to be a the front of the line? Some how I never lost that.

I figured out early on that I was not Superman.  No super powers.  But neither did Batman.  He had gadgets and a cool belt.  Maybe I had a chance...

Worship falls into two categories:  that which is directed at Christ Jesus and that not which is not. Humans are like machines that God designed for worship, and no one really knows if there is an off button.  We may actually be worshiping all the time.  Most of theology has a pretty good idea when are definitely worshiping God (at church singing hymns) and when we definitely are not (sinning).  It's the area in the middle, the every day living part, that becomes difficult to determine in what way we are worshiping.

Celtic Christianity believed even the every day mundane stuff could be directed toward God.  It's called humility.  Not the kind found in a single event, but the everyday lifestyle of humility.  The concept stood in direct opposition of my dreams of being a star.

Worship is humility worked out in daily service to God and fellow man.  Service requires but one quality. Faithfulness.  Day in and day out.  Faithfulness revels in the mundane, for there it shows its strength.  It is a quality of being noticed more when you are not present.  Being invisible.

When I worship, I want to be invisible so that people see through me and see Jesus.  I can do that on the big stage, in the congregation, at work, going for a walk, sitting down for a meal.

So while some have super talent and others have cool electronic gear for their guitars, I am the invisible servant that is there everyday.  I'm not a hero, but I want to be.  I'm really more of a side kick or an Uncle Alfred.
